Program Description:
This program was developed for teen cessation and piloted at two local high schools in 1998-99.  Student evaluations were used to formulate the curriculum into 12 sessions - some skill building and some support group/ex-smoker guest speakers.   In 1999-00, the schools established ongoing support groups that meet weekly and have found that flexibility is the key to success.  The program uses public service TV ads developed by the Centers for Disease Control and the facilitator manual is available from the Virginia Department of Health - Tobacco Use Control Programs.

Program Services:
Group sessions (skills training, support), supervised medication support, subsidized use of medication (program provides free or low-cost access to nicotine replacement or Zyban).

The program is provided free by the health department to teen/youth who smoke cigarettes or use smokeless tobacco.
