Smoking Cessation Counseling

Program Description: Smoking cessation counseling provided by health educator to local free clinic patients. Health educator has a Master's degree in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise with a concentration in cardiac rehabilitation. She is trained as a facilitator for the American Cancer Society's FreshStart Program and the American Lung Association's Freedom From Smoking (adults) & Not-On-Tobacco (teens) cessation programs. The Free Clinic one-on-one program will be available onsite to any New River Free Clinic patient referred to the health educator during clinic hours (with a focus on nights when the pulmonologist sees patients at the Christiansburg clinic).
Program Services: Face-to-face counseling.
Program site is wheelchair accessible and accessible by public transportation. Some program fees may be reimbursable by insurance. Services available to cigarette smokers. Special focus on low-income populations.

Program Description: Carilion Health System has offered "Smokeless," a behavior modification program developed by the American Institute of Preventive Medicine, for over a decade. "Smokeless" is now available as a self-study program on CD with pamphlet that can be used at home or work. Fee is $75 which includes all materials plus toll-free telephone support.
